Leather Axe Choker Necklace
This necklace features a bronze double headed axe. We finished it with a medium brown leather suede lace and a bronze lobster claw clasp. The choker measures 14 1/2" in length.
The axe is one of the oldest tools developed by humans; since the Neolithic age, it has been a symbol of battle and work. All ancient traditions associated the axe with lightning, water, and fertility, and attributed to it the power of making or stopping rain. It is a symbol of spiritual penetration and fertilization, as it opens the ground. The twin-bladed axe is often associated with the Hindu thunderbolt, so it is a symbol of celestial illumination. Related to the ox because of its shape, and can be a general talisman of strength.
Also, the Labrys is an asymmetric double-headed
ritual axe that is one of the holiest Cretan religious symbols. It is also known as Labyris, Sagarus, and Halbryce. The closest association of the Labrys is with the ancient Minoan civilization where it was used as a symbol of the Mother Goddess and was representative of authority. It was also seen as symbolic of a butterfly, signifying transformation and rebirth. This double axe was depicted mostly in the hands of women and came to be connected with the male gods long after the decline of Minoan civilization. In Greek mythology, the Labrys (also called Pelekys) appears as an ancient symbol linked with the Thunder God, Zeus who used the axe to invoke storms. The Labrys is also associated with the Amazons. The legendary warrior society of women that did not follow the patriarchal culture.

We hope our packaging looks as pretty as the gift inside! That is something that we take a lot of pride in. We have gift boxes, sheer organza bags, cards, etc. If you want something special, email us and we will do what we can to tailor it to the person you’re sending it to or the occasion. But if you’re splurging on yourself, rest easy, when it comes out of our workroom for shipping it will still look special!
A lot of our time is spent out at festivals, shows, events, etc. We specialize in one-of-a-kind handcrafted pieces. What you see online might not be what you’re looking for but you know what you want (at least a little). My sister, Beth, is a master at anything hemp, leather or metal. I love any kind of stone I can find and unique pendants on silk cord, leather and chain. Send us an email and together we will bring that vision to life. The best part of custom is having your hand in the design of it, you’ll get what you want.
Sizing can be difficult sometimes. The best thing to have is a soft measuring tape so you can get a feel of the length you want. Some people want pieces for certain necklines and it matters where you want it to sit. We’ve had people give or send us string they cut for the length. It’s funny I know but it worked in a pinch. There’s customers out there who can’t just come out and ask what size the person wears for their bracelet or something.
Quite honestly we try to make whatever we make out of quality materials. We don’t use silver or sterling silver because it tarnishes. There are times you do have something that tarnishes or darkens but we try the best we can to avoid that. We make our pieces and leave them exposed to the air so we can not sell a piece until we know the findings, crimps, clasps, spacers, etc. will not tarnish.
